All of our staff and volunteers are passionate about making a positive difference to young people’s lives; all of them demonstrate the organisation’s values on a daily basis.
The charity is headed up by Claire Hubberstey, the Chief Executive. Claire has worked at Safer London for four years, and was instrumental in building the services and staff team to its strength today. Claire previously worked for seven years at the Children’s Society and has over 13 years experience of working in the sector.
Claire is supported by an experienced and committed management and corporate services team and by our specialist frontline team of support workers. Our staff work directly with the most vulnerable young Londoners, gaining their trust and enabling them to talk about the difficult things that have happened to them. They are a diverse team and come from a range of sectors and backgrounds including social care, probation, health, youth offending, charity, education, training, youth service, local and central government.
Our Trustee Board is made up of a group of diverse, committed individuals who all bring a range of experience and strengths to the organisation. Bruce Melizan is our current Chair and has been on the Board for seven years. Bruce is currently Executive Director of Interserve plc and Managing Director of Interserve’s Support Services Division. Bruce has been in the outsourcing industry for 20 years and has held a variety of roles in direct delivery, sales, marketing and general management.
Our Volunteer Mentors directly support young people on our Mentoring programme (also known as Aspire). The mentors come from a wide range of backgrounds and provide advice on job skills, education and employment as well as working closely with younger people to help develop their self confidence, communication and learning skills.
We are also proud to have His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as our Patron. The Commissioner for the Metropolitan Police Service, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, is our President.
