Our President - Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe
Our President is Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, Commissioner for the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).
Born in Sheffield, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe began his policing career when he joined South Yorkshire Police, aged 22. During his career he has held both uniform and detective roles, has been Assistant Chief Constable and Chief Constable in Merseyside and Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police Service.
In October 2009 he was appointed to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) and his work included inspections of the MPS, City of London Police, British Transport Police (BTP), Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). He was also lead Her Majesty’s Inspector on thematic areas of policing such as the Olympics, counter terrorism and serious organised crime. In January 2011 he led the review of the national domestic extremism units.
He has considerable experience across policing including crime investigation, the strategic leadership of major public events, public disorder and organised crime. He returned to the Metropolitan Police as Acting Deputy Commissioner in July 2011 and in September 2011 he was appointed to the position of Commissioner.
