If we want to get a safeguarding response for a young person we can refer them. Why can’t we do the same if we’ve got a safeguarding concern about a place?

Can more be done to work with the spaces and places young Londoners spend their time to help protect them from violence and exploitation?

On 25th August we hosted a webinar where we addressed this topic and how Contextual Safeguarding approaches can be applied to help keep young Londoners safe – particularly through the lens of spaces and places.

We were joined by leading expert in Contextual Safeguarding Dr Carlene Firmin MBE, as she talked through her research and real examples of where Contextual Safeguarding approaches have been deployed in test sties.

Safer London’s referral and assessment manager talked about our new ‘Front Door’ referral pathway, and how this workers for places and spaces.

Lastly, we were joined by our Prevention Advocate who used real examples from her practice to demonstrate how we work with spaces and places. They are the ones with the expert knowledge of the context of harm, we bring them together to discuss the issues and assist them to be able to address those issues and better protect the young Londoners living in their communities.
