Research: Young Women's Experiences of Custody

Share your experience with us and help make change

Have you ever been detained or held in custody by the police?

Are you a young woman aged 18 to 24 (or were at the time of custody)? We want to hear from you to help ensure that young women like you are treated fairly, with respect and dignity.

Why Your Voice Matters

Safer London is working on creating resources to support young women who have been through similar experiences. Your feedback will also help guide the police and Crown Prosecution Service in better understanding how to treat and support young women in custody.

By sharing your experiences and opinions, you can help make a real difference in the way young women are treated in the future.

How You Can Get Involved

Participation will be through confidential interviews either in person (London based participants only) or online - whatever works for you!

Everything you share will be kept anonymous and confidential.

Interviews take place with Safer London’s Resources Manager Yvonne, an experienced support worker who has worked with girls and young women affected by exploitation and violence.

What We Want to Know:

  • What went well
  • What didn’t go well
  • What you think needs to change

If you participate, you'll receive a £50 voucher as a thank you for your time and input!

Do you work with young women who've been in custody?

If so, please share this opportunity with them! We can offer group interviews (online or in person) if women prefer to share their experiences alongside their peers. We can also conduct interviews with another professional present, such as a support worker, if this makes them feel more comfortable.
